All 1st grade students are asked to read 20 minutes each day. Your child’s homeroom teacher will be keeping track of minutes read for a grade. I will not be recording daily reading as part of the Language Arts grade, but it is essential in your child’s reading education. Your child should read to you as much of that 20 minutes as they are able. They will be bringing home leveled books through the Home Reading Program soon. These are great for reading practice at a level that is not too hard for them. You can also read to them for part of the time as they are developing basic reading skills. Have them take turns reading simple words or sentences as they are able, and move to taking turns reading a page at a time as them become more capable.
